The AccelePort^® Xem Asynchronous System from Digi^® is an expandable, modular and intelligent serial communication solution designed for small to mid-size multiuser installations. This product is well-suited for applications that are expected to start small and grow over time to as many as 64 ports. This flexible system enables you to connect up to 64 RS-232 or RS-422 serial ports to a Universal PCI (3.3v & 5v) or ISA-based computer. The result is a fast, reliable way to connect terminals, printers, modems, instruments and other serial peripheral devices, making it ideal for applications such as data acquisition, office/factory automation and industrial process control.

The AccelePort^® Xem system features a host adapter card with an on-board RISC-based processor that delivers up to 115.2 Kbps performance per port. The system also includes a compact Digi PORTS module that provides access to eight or 16 serial ports. PORTS modules can also be Ethernet-enabled using the PortServer^® II. The AccelePort^® Xem has driver support for a wide array of popular operating systems.
