Overview

The 10/100Base-TX to 100Base-FX Bridging Media Converter from Transition Networks® is a fixed full-duplex converter that converts 10/100Base-TX signals to 100Base-FX signals and vice-versa. This converter comes with multimode ST fiber interface and connects an existing 10 Mbps device to 100 Mbps devices. Separating collision domains while linking two half-duplex hubs, this media converter provides an efficient method for integrating fiber optic cabling into a 10/100 UTP environment. Its Auto-Negotiation feature allows the device to perform automatic configuration to achieve optimum mode of operation over a link. AutoCross capability detects and configures the twisted pair port on the converter to the correct MDI or MDI-X configuration eliminating the need to identify the cable type or switch settings.

This converter employs Far End Fault (FEF), a troubleshooting feature that is used in conjunction with Link Pass Through to notify both end devices of link loss. In the event of a loss of fiber RX signal on far end, the converter will automatically generate a fault signal and send it on its TX fiber port to notify the near end converter of a fiber link loss. The Link Pass Through then disables the copper links on both ends alerting end devices of network trouble. This plug-and-play media converter can be powered with an included power adapter as well as through a USB port or 802.3af PoE enabled RJ-45 port. Additionally, two power options can also be used simultaneously, providing security of redundant power supplies.
